மந்த்ர புஷ்பம்

மந்த்ர புஷ்பம் is a Vedic meditation on ஆபஸ், the waters, as support, flower, source, and subtle foundation of cosmic order. It is drawn from the Taittiriya Aranyaka stream of the Krishna Yajurveda and is commonly recited near the close of worship, when flowers are offered.

This Vedic chant teaches the sacred interdependence behind the visible world. Its repeated word ஆயதனம் means abode, basis, resting place, or support. The hymn contemplates water as the support of fire, wind, sun, moon, stars, rain, and time, while also contemplating each of these as a support of water.

ப॒⁴த்³ரம் கர்ணே॑பி⁴: ஶ்ருணு॒யாம॑ தே³வா: ।
ப॒⁴த்³ரம் ப॑ஶ்யேமா॒க்ஷபி॒⁴ர்யஜ॑த்ரா: ।
ஸ்தி॒²ரைரங்கை᳚³ஸ்துஷ்டு॒வாக்³ம்ஸ॑ஸ்த॒னூபி॑⁴: ।
வ்யஶே॑ம தே॒³வஹி॑தம்॒ யதா³யு:॑ ॥
ஸ்வ॒ஸ்தி ந॒ இந்த்³ரோ॑ வ்ரு॒த்³த⁴ஶ்ர॑வா: ।
ஸ்வ॑ஸ்தி ந:॑ பூ॒ஷா வி॒ஶ்வவே॑தா³: ।
ஸ்வ॒॒ஸ்தின॒ஸ்தார்க்ஷ்யோ॒ அரி॑ஷ்டனேமி: ।
ஸ்வ॒ஸ்தி நோ॒ ப்³ருஹ॒ஸ்பதி॑ர்த³தா⁴து ॥
ஓம் ஶாந்தி:॒ ஶாந்தி:॒ ஶாந்தி:॑ ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
May we hear what is auspicious and see what is auspicious. With steady bodies, may we praise the divine and live the lifespan granted for divine purpose. May Indra, Pusha, Tarkshya, and Brihaspati grant us well-being. May there be peace, peace, peace.

யோ॑பாம் புஷ்பம்॒ வேத॑³ ।
புஷ்ப॑வான் ப்ர॒ஜாவா᳚ன் பஶு॒மான் ப॑⁴வதி ।
ச॒ந்த்³ரமா॒ வா அ॒பாம் புஷ்பம்᳚ ।
புஷ்ப॑வான் ப்ர॒ஜாவா᳚ன் பஶு॒மான் ப॑⁴வதி ।
ய ஏ॒வம் வேத॑³ ।
யோ॑பாமா॒யத॑னம்॒ வேத॑³ ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
One who knows the flower of the waters becomes blessed with blossoming, progeny, and living wealth. The moon is the flower of the waters. One who knows the support of the waters becomes established in support.

அ॒க்³னிர்வா அ॒பாமா॒யத॑னம் ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
யோ᳚க்³னேரா॒யத॑னம்॒ வேத॑³ ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
ஆபோ॒வா அ॒க்³னேரா॒யத॑னம் ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
ய ஏ॒வம் வேத॑³ ।
யோ॑பாமா॒யத॑னம்॒ வேத॑³ ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Fire is a support of the waters, and the waters are a support of fire. One who knows this mutual support becomes firmly established.

வா॒யுர்வா அ॒பாமா॒யத॑னம் ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
யோ வா॒யோரா॒யத॑னம்॒ வேத॑³ ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
ஆபோ॒ வை வா॒யோரா॒யத॑னம் ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
ய ஏ॒வம் வேத॑³ ।
யோ॑பாமா॒யத॑னம்॒ வேத॑³ ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Wind is a support of the waters, and waters are the support of wind. One who knows this becomes established in support.

அ॒ஸௌ வை தப॑ன்ன॒பாமா॒யத॑னம் ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
யோ॑முஷ்ய॒தப॑த ஆ॒யத॑னம்॒ வேத॑³ ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
ஆபோ॒ வா அ॒முஷ்ய॒தப॑த ஆ॒யத॑னம் ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
ய ஏ॒வம் வேத॑³ ।
யோ॑பாமா॒யத॑னம்॒ வேத॑³ ।

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
The shining sun is a support of the waters, and the waters are a support of the sun. One who knows this becomes established.

ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
யஶ்ச॒ந்த்³ரம॑ஸ ஆ॒யத॑னம்॒ வேத॑³ ।

The moon is a support of the waters, and the waters are the support of the moon. One who knows this becomes established.

நக்ஷத்ர॑த்ராணி॒ வா அ॒பாமா॒யத॑னம் ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
யோ நக்ஷத்ர॑த்ராணாமா॒யத॑னம்॒ வேத॑³ ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
ஆபோ॒ வை நக்ஷ॑த்ராணாமா॒யத॑னம் ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
ய ஏ॒வம் வேத॑³ ।
யோ॑பாமா॒யத॑னம்॒ வேத॑³ ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
The stars are a support of the waters, and the waters are the support of the stars. One who knows this becomes established.

ப॒ர்ஜன்யோ॒ வா அ॒பாமா॒யத॑னம் ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
ய: ப॒ர்ஜன்ய॑ஸ்யா॒யத॑னம்॒ வேத॑³ ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
ஆபோ॒ வை ப॒ர்ஜன்ய॑ஸ்யா॒யத॑னம் ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
The rain-cloud is a support of the waters, and the waters are the support of the rain-cloud. One who knows this becomes established.

ஸம்॒வ॒த்ஸ॒ரோ வா அ॒பாமா॒யத॑னம்॒ ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
ய: ஸம்॑வத்ஸ॒ரஸ்யா॒யத॑னம்॒ வேத॑³ ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
ஆபோ॒ வை ஸம்॑வத்ஸ॒ரஸ்யா॒யத॑னம் ।
ஆ॒யத॑னவான் ப⁴வதி ।
ய ஏவம் வேத॑³ ।
யோ᳚ப்²ஸு நாவம்॒ ப்ரதி॑ஷ்டி²தாம்॒ வேத॑³ ।
ப்ரத்யே॒வ தி॑ஷ்ட²தி ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
The year is a support of the waters, and the waters support the year. One who knows the boat established in the waters becomes firmly established.

ஓம் ரா॒ஜா॒தி॒⁴ரா॒ஜாய॑ ப்ரஸஹ்ய ஸா॒ஹினே᳚ ।
நமோ॑ வ॒யம் வை᳚ஶ்ரவ॒ணாய॑ குர்மஹே ।
ஸ மே॒ காமா॒ன் காம॒ காமா॑ய॒ மஹ்யம்᳚ ।
கா॒மே॒ஶ்வ॒ரோ வை᳚ஶ்ரவ॒ணோ த॑³தா³து ।
கு॒பே॒³ராய॑ வைஶ்ரவ॒ணாய॑ ।
ம॒ஹா॒ராஜாய॒ நம:॑ ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
We bow to Vaishravana, king of kings, mighty and victorious. May Kubera, lord of desired wealth, grant me rightful desires. Salutations to Kubera, the great king.

ஓம்᳚ தத்³ப்³ர॒ஹ்ம ।
ஓம்᳚ தத்³வா॒யு: ।
ஓம்᳚ ததா॒³த்மா ।
ஓம்᳚ தத்²ஸ॒த்யம் ।
ஓம்᳚ தத்ஸர்வம்᳚ ।
ஓம்᳚ தத்புரோ॒ர்னம: ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
That is Brahman; that is Vayu; that is the Self; that is truth; that is all. Salutation to that supreme presence.

அந்தஶ்சரதி॑ பூ⁴தே॒ஷு கு³ஹாயாம் வி॑ஶ்வமூ॒ர்திஷு ।
த்வம் யஜ்ஞஸ்த்வம் வஷட்காரஸ்த்வ-மிந்த்³ரஸ்த்வக்³ம்
ருத்³ரஸ்த்வம் விஷ்ணுஸ்த்வம் ப்³ரஹ்மத்வம்॑ ப்ரஜா॒பதி: ।
த்வம் த॑தா³ப॒ ஆபோ॒ ஜ்யோதீ॒ரஸோ॒ம்ருதம் ப்³ரஹ்ம॒ பூ⁴ர்பு⁴வ॒ஸ்ஸுவ॒ரோம் ।

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
You move within beings, hidden in the heart-cave and present in all forms. You are sacrifice, the sacrificial call, Indra, Rudra, Vishnu, Brahma, and Prajapati. You are waters, light, essence, immortality, Brahman, and the three worlds.

ஈஶானஸ்ஸர்வ॑ வித்³யா॒னாமீஶ்வரஸ்ஸர்வ॑பூ⁴தா॒னாம்
ப்³ரஹ்மாதி॑⁴பதி॒-ர்ப்³ரஹ்ம॒ணோதி॑⁴பதி॒-ர்ப்³ரஹ்மா॑ ஶி॒வோ மே॑ அஸ்து ஸதா³ஶி॒வோம் ।

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
May the Lord of all knowledge, the Lord of all beings, the Lord of sacred knowledge, Brahma and Shiva, the ever-auspicious one, be auspicious to me.

தத்³விஷ்ணோ:᳚ பர॒மம் ப॒த³க்³ம் ஸதா॑³ பஶ்யந்தி ஸூ॒ரய:॑ ।
தி॒³வீவ॒ சக்ஷு॒ராத॑தம் ।
தத்³விப்ரா॑ஸோ விப॒ன்யவோ॑ ஜாக்³ரு॒வாக்³ம் ஸஸ்ஸமி॑ந்த⁴தே ।
விஷ்னோ॒ர்யத்ப॑ர॒மம் ப॒த³ம் ।

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
The seers always behold the supreme station of Vishnu, like an eye extended in heaven. The inspired and wakeful sages kindle awareness of that supreme station.

ருதக்³ம் ஸ॒த்யம் ப॑ரம் ப்³ர॒ஹ்ம॒ பு॒ருஷம்॑ க்ருஷ்ண॒பிங்க॑³லம் ।
ஊ॒ர்த்⁴வரே॑தம் வி॑ரூபா॒க்ஷம்॒ வி॒ஶ்வரூ॑பாய॒ வை நமோ॒ நம:॑ ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Salutations to the universal-form Purusha, supreme Brahman, truth and cosmic order, dark-tawny, upward in creative power, wondrous-eyed, and present as the sacred form of all.

ஓம் நா॒ரா॒ய॒ணாய॑ வி॒த்³மஹே॑ வாஸுதே॒³வாய॑ தீ⁴மஹி ।
தன்னோ॑ விஷ்ணு: ப்ரசோ॒த³யா᳚த் ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
May we know Narayana; we meditate on Vasudeva as the indwelling divine presence. May Vishnu inspire, guide, and illumine our understanding.

ஓம் ஶாந்தி:॒ ஶாந்தி:॒ ஶாந்தி:॑ ।

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
May peace settle at every level: in divine forces, in the outer world, and within the mind, so that the knowledge of cosmic support may become stable.
