ஶ்ரீ ஸூக்தம்

ஶ்ரீ ஸூக்தம் is the central Vedic hymn to ஶ்ரீ லக்ஷ்மீ, the divine power of auspiciousness, prosperity, beauty, nourishment, royal grace, and moral abundance. It is received in the Rigvedic கி²ல or appendix tradition, and living recitation often preserves more than one textual layer: the Vedic core, ritual verses, phala verses, and later devotional Lakshmi/Narayani prayers.

This Vedic hymn teaches what kind of prosperity is worth seeking. It does not ask for wealth in isolation; it asks for ஶ்ரீ, the sacred fullness that includes virtue, fertility, food, cattle, capable people, good speech, reputation, and the removal of அலக்ஷ்மீ, misfortune and disorder.

ஓம் ॥ ஹிர॑ண்யவர்ணாம்॒ ஹரி॑ணீம் ஸு॒வர்ண॑ரஜ॒தஸ்ர॑ஜாம் ।
ச॒ந்த்³ராம் ஹி॒ரண்ம॑யீம் ல॒க்ஷ்மீம் ஜாத॑வேதோ³ ம॒மாவ॑ஹ ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
O Jatavedas Agni, bring to me Lakshmi who is golden-hued, radiant, adorned with gold and silver, moon-like, and filled with luminous auspiciousness.

தாம் ம॒ ஆவ॑ஹ॒ ஜாத॑வேதோ³ ல॒க்ஷ்மீமன॑பகா॒³மினீ᳚ம் ।
யஸ்யாம்॒ ஹிர॑ண்யம் வி॒ந்தே³யம்॒ கா³மஶ்வம்॒ புரு॑ஷான॒ஹம் ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
O Jatavedas, bring to me Lakshmi who does not depart. In her presence may I obtain wealth, cattle, horses, and worthy people.

அ॒ஶ்வ॒பூ॒ர்வாம் ர॑த²ம॒த்⁴யாம் ஹ॒ஸ்தினா॑த-³ப்ர॒போ³தி॑⁴னீம் ।
ஶ்ரியம்॑ தே॒³வீமுப॑ஹ்வயே॒ ஶ்ரீர்மா॑ தே॒³வீர்ஜு॑ஷதாம் ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
I invoke the divine Sri, preceded by horses, seated in the chariot, and announced by the sound of elephants. May the goddess Sri favor me.

காம்॒ஸோ᳚ஸ்மி॒ தாம் ஹிர॑ண்யப்ரா॒காரா॑மா॒ர்த்³ராம் ஜ்வல॑ந்தீம் த்ரு॒ப்தாம் த॒ர்பய॑ந்தீம் ।
ப॒த்³மே॒ ஸ்தி॒²தாம் ப॒த்³மவ॑ர்ணாம்॒ தாமி॒ஹோப॑ஹ்வயே॒ ஶ்ரியம் ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
I invoke Sri who is protected by golden splendor, moist with compassion and fertility, blazing, fulfilled and fulfilling, seated in the lotus and lotus-hued.

ச॒ந்த்³ராம் ப்ர॑பா॒⁴ஸாம் ய॒ஶஸா॒ ஜ்வல॑ந்தீம்॒ ஶ்ரியம்॑ லோ॒கே தே॒³வஜு॑ஷ்டாமுதா॒³ராம் ।
தாம் ப॒த்³மினீ॑மீம்॒ ஶர॑ணம॒ஹம் ப்ரப॑த்³யேல॒க்ஷ்மீர்மே॑ நஶ்யதாம்॒ த்வாம் வ்ரு॑ணே ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
I take refuge in the noble lotus-bearing Sri, moon-like, radiant, shining with honor, and cherished by the gods. I choose you; may misfortune depart from me.

ஆ॒தி॒³த்யவ॑ர்ணே॒ தப॒ஸோதி॑⁴ஜா॒தோ வன॒ஸ்பதி॒ஸ்தவ॑ வ்ரு॒க்ஷோத॑² பி॒³ல்வ: ।
தஸ்ய॒ ப²லா॑னி॒ தப॒ஸானு॑த³ந்து மா॒யாந்த॑ரா॒யாஶ்ச॑ பா॒³ஹ்யா அ॑ல॒க்ஷ்மீ: ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
O sun-radiant one born of tapas, may the fruits of your sacred bilva tree, through the power of tapas, drive away inner obstacles of delusion and outer misfortune.

உபை॑து॒ மாம் தே॑³வஸ॒க:² கீ॒ர்திஶ்ச॒ மணி॑னா ஸ॒ஹ ।
ப்ரா॒து॒³ர்பூ॒⁴தோஸ்மி॑ ராஷ்ட்ரே॒ஸ்மின் கீ॒ர்தி॒ம்ரு॑த்³தி⁴ம் த॒³தா³து॑ மே ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
May the friend of the gods come to me along with jewel-like fame. May I arise worthily in this community, and may I be granted good reputation and growth.

க்ஷு॒த்பி॒பா॒ஸாம॑லாம் ஜ்யே॒ஷ்டா²ம॒ல॒க்ஷீ-ர்னா॑ஶயா॒ம்யஹம் ।
அபூ॑⁴தி॒மஸ॑ம்ருத்³தி⁴ம்॒ ச ஸ॒ர்வாம்॒ நிர்ணு॑த³ மே॒ க்³ருஹாத் ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
I reject Alakshmi, marked by hunger, thirst, and impurity. Drive away from my home all non-prosperity, insufficiency, and lack of well-being.

க³ம்॒த॒⁴த்³வா॒ராம் து॑³ராத॒⁴ர்ஷாம்॒ நி॒த்யபு॑ஷ்டாம் கரீ॒ஷிணீ᳚ம் ।
ஈ॒ஶ்வரீக்³ம்॑ ஸர்வ॑பூ⁴தா॒னாம்॒ தாமி॒ஹோப॑ஹ்வயே॒ ஶ்ரியம் ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
I invoke Sri as fragrant, unconquerable, ever-nourished, fertile, and sovereign over all beings, so that prosperity may come as living abundance joined with divine order.

[ஶ்ரீ᳚ர்மே ப॒⁴ஜது । அல॒க்ஷீ᳚ர்மே ந॒ஶ்யது ।]

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
May Sri favor me and remain with me; may Alakshmi, the poverty of disorder, hunger, harshness, and misfortune, depart from my home and heart.

மன॑ஸ:॒ காம॒மாகூ॑திம் வா॒ச: ஸ॒த்யம॑ஶீமஹி ।
ப॒ஶூ॒னாக்³ம் ரூ॒பமன்ய॑ஸ்ய॒ மயி॒ ஶ்ரீ: ஶ்ர॑யதாம்॒ யஶ:॑ ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
May we attain worthy intention in the mind and truth in speech. May the forms of nourishment and living wealth be ours; may Sri and good honor abide in me.

க॒ர்த³மே॑ன ப்ர॑ஜாபூ॒⁴தா॒ ம॒யி॒ ஸம்ப॑⁴வ க॒ர்த³ம ।
ஶ்ரியம்॑ வா॒ஸய॑ மே கு॒லே॒ மா॒தரம்॑ பத்³ம॒மாலி॑னீம் ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
O Kardama, source of fertility and progeny, arise in me. Establish the lotus-garlanded Mother Sri in my family.

ஆப:॑ ஸ்ரு॒ஜந்து॑ ஸ்னி॒க்³தா॒⁴னி॒ சி॒க்லீ॒த வ॑ஸ மே॒ க்³ருஹே ।
நி ச॑ தே॒³வீம் மா॒தரம்॒ ஶ்ரியம்॑ வா॒ஸய॑ மே கு॒லே ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
May the waters bring softness and nourishment. O Chiklita, dwell in my house and establish the divine Mother Sri in my family.

ஆ॒ர்த்³ராம் பு॒ஷ்கரி॑ணீம் பு॒ஷ்டிம்॒ பிம்॒க॒³ளாம் ப॑த்³மமா॒லினீம் ।
ச॒ந்த்³ராம் ஹி॒ரண்ம॑யீம் ல॒க்ஷ்மீம் ஜாத॑வேதோ³ ம॒மாவ॑ஹ ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
O Jatavedas, bring to me Lakshmi who is moist with compassion, lotus-bearing, nourishing, golden-tawny, lotus-garlanded, moonlike, and golden.

ஆ॒ர்த்³ராம் ய:॒ கரி॑ணீம் ய॒ஷ்டிம்॒ ஸு॒வ॒ர்ணாம் ஹே॑மமா॒லினீம் ।
ஸூ॒ர்யாம் ஹி॒ரண்ம॑யீம் ல॒க்ஷ்மீம்॒ ஜாத॑வேதோ³ ம॒மாவ॑ஹ ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
O Jatavedas, bring to me Lakshmi who is compassionate, active, supportive, golden, garlanded with gold, sunlike, and radiant.

தாம் ம॒ ஆவ॑ஹ॒ ஜாத॑வேதோ³ ல॒க்ஷீமன॑பகா॒³மினீ᳚ம் ।
யஸ்யாம்॒ ஹிர॑ண்யம்॒ ப்ரபூ॑⁴தம்॒ கா³வோ॑ தா॒³ஸ்யோஶ்வா᳚ன், விம்॒தே³யம்॒ புரு॑ஷான॒ஹம் ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
O Jatavedas, bring to me the unfailing Lakshmi, in whose presence I may gain abundant wealth, cows, helpers, horses, and capable people.

யஶ்ஶுசி:॑ ப்ரயதோ பூ॒⁴த்வா॒ ஜு॒ஹுயா॑-தா³ஜ்ய॒-மன்வ॑ஹம் ।
ஶ்ரிய:॑ ப॒ஞ்சத॑³ஶர்சம் ச ஶ்ரீ॒காம॑ஸ்ஸத॒தம்॒ ஜ॑பேத் ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
After becoming pure and disciplined, one who desires Sri should daily offer ghee and constantly recite the fifteen verses of Sri.

ஆனந்த:³ கர்த॑³மஶ்சை॒வ சிக்லீ॒த இ॑தி வி॒ஶ்ருதா: ।
ருஷ॑ய॒ஸ்தே த்ர॑ய: புத்ரா: ஸ்வ॒யம்॒ ஶ்ரீரே॑வ தே॒³வதா ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Ananda, Kardama, and Chiklita are renowned as the three seer-sons, and Sri herself is the deity of this hymn.

பத்³மானனே ப॑த்³ம ஊ॒ரூ॒ ப॒த்³மாக்ஷீ ப॑த்³மஸ॒ம்ப⁴வே ।
த்வம் மாம்᳚ ப॒⁴ஜஸ்வ॑ பத்³மா॒க்ஷீ யே॒ன ஸௌக்²யம்॑ லபா॒⁴ம்யஹம் ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
O lotus-faced, lotus-eyed, lotus-born Goddess, please favor me so that I may obtain true happiness, inner purity, and prosperity that remains unstained like the lotus.

அ॒ஶ்வதா॑³யீ ச கோ³தா॒³யீ॒ த॒⁴னதா॑³யீ ம॒ஹாத॑⁴னே ।
த⁴னம்॑ மே॒ ஜுஷ॑தாம் தே॒³வீ ஸ॒ர்வகா॑மார்த॒² ஸித்³த॑⁴யே ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
O great giver of horses, cows, and wealth, may the Goddess grant me wealth for the fulfillment of rightful aims and desires.

புத்ரபௌத்ர த⁴னம் தா⁴ன்யம் ஹஸ்த்யஶ்வாஜாவிகோ³ ரத²ம் ।
ப்ரஜானாம் ப⁴வஸி மாதா ஆயுஷ்மந்தம் கரோது மாம் ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
O Mother of beings, grant children, grandchildren, wealth, grain, animals, vehicles, and long life, so that household prosperity may support dharma, continuity, and service.

சந்த்³ராபா⁴ம் லக்ஷ்மீமீஶானாம் ஸூர்யாபா⁴ம்᳚ ஶ்ரியமீஶ்வரீம் ।
சந்த்³ர ஸூர்யாக்³னி ஸர்வாபா⁴ம் ஶ்ரீ மஹாலக்ஷ்மீ-முபாஸ்மஹே ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
We worship Sri Mahalakshmi, sovereign Goddess, radiant like the moon, the sun, fire, and all lights, who illumines prosperity from every side.

த⁴ன-மக்³னி-ர்த⁴னம் வாயு-ர்த⁴னம் ஸூர்யோ॑ த⁴னம் வஸு: ।
த⁴னமிந்த்³ரோ ப்³ருஹஸ்பதி-ர்வரு॑ணம் த⁴னம॑ஶ்னுதே ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Fire is wealth, wind is wealth, the sun is wealth, the Vasus are wealth; Indra, Brihaspati, and Varuna are wealth that one attains.

வைனதேய ஸோமம் பிப³ ஸோமம்॑ பிப³து வ்ருத்ரஹா ।
ஸோமம்॒ த⁴னஸ்ய ஸோமினோ॒ மஹ்யம்॑ த³தா³து ஸோமினீ॑ ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
May Garuda drink Soma; may Indra, destroyer of Vritra, drink Soma. May the Soma-bearing Goddess grant me the wealth connected with Soma.

ந க்ரோதோ⁴ ந ச மாத்ஸ॒ர்யம் ந லோபோ॑⁴ நாஶுபா⁴ மதி: ।
ப⁴வந்தி க்ருத புண்யானாம் ப॒⁴க்தானாம் ஶ்ரீ ஸூ᳚க்தம் ஜபேத்ஸதா³ ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Anger, jealousy, greed, and inauspicious thought do not remain in meritorious devotees who always recite the Sri Suktam.

வர்ஷ᳚ந்து॒ தே வி॑பா⁴வ॒ரி॒ தி॒³வோ அப்⁴ரஸ்ய வித்³யு॑த: ।
ரோஹ᳚ந்து ஸர்வ॑பீ³ஜான்யவ ப்³ரஹ்ம த்³வி॒ஷோ᳚ ஜ॑ஹி ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
May the heavenly clouds and lightning pour rain; may all seeds sprout. Drive away hostility toward sacred knowledge.

பத்³மப்ரியே பத்³மினி பத்³மஹஸ்தே பத்³மாலயே பத்³ம-தள³ாயதாக்ஷீ ।
விஶ்வப்ரியே விஷ்ணு மனோனுகூலே த்வத்பாத³பத்³மம் மயி ஸன்னித⁴த்ஸ்வ ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
O lotus-loving, lotus-handed, lotus-dwelling Goddess with lotus-petal eyes, beloved of the universe and pleasing to Vishnu, establish your lotus feet in me.

யா ஸா பத்³மாஸனஸ்தா² விபுலகடிதடீ பத்³மபத்ராயதாக்ஷீ ।
க³ம்பீ⁴ரா வர்தனாபி⁴: ஸ்தனப⁴ரனமிதா ஶுப்⁴ர வஸ்தோத்தரீயா ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
She is seated on a lotus, broad with abundance, lotus-eyed, deep and dignified, marked by beauty and nourishment, and clothed in pure white.

லக்ஷ்மீ-ர்தி³வ்யை-ர்கஜ³ேந்த்³ரை-ர்மணிக³ண க²சிதை-ஸ்ஸ்னாபிதா ஹேமகும்பை⁴: ।
நித்யம் ஸா பத்³மஹஸ்தா மம வஸது க்³ருஹே ஸர்வ மாங்கள³்யயுக்தா ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
May lotus-handed Lakshmi, bathed by divine elephants with gem-studded golden pots and endowed with every auspiciousness, always dwell in my home.

லக்ஷ்மீம் க்ஷீர ஸமுத்³ர ராஜதனயாம் ஶ்ரீரங்க³ தா⁴மேஶ்வரீம் ।
தா³ஸீபூ⁴த ஸமஸ்த தே³வ வனிதாம் லோகைக தீ³பாங்குராம் ।
ஶ்ரீமன்மந்த³ கடாக்ஷ லப்³த⁴ விப⁴வ ப்³ரஹ்மேந்த்³ர க³ங்கா³த⁴ராம் ।
த்வாம் த்ரைலோக்ய குடும்பி³னீம் ஸரஸிஜாம் வந்தே³ முகுந்த³ப்ரியாம் ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
I bow to lotus-born Lakshmi, daughter of the milk ocean, queen of Sriranga, beloved of Mukunda, whose gentle glance grants splendor, and who is the sustaining mother of the three worlds.

ஸித்³த⁴லக்ஷ்மீ-ர்மோக்ஷலக்ஷ்மீ-ர்ஜயலக்ஷ்மீ-ஸ்ஸரஸ்வதீ ।
ஶ்ரீலக்ஷ்மீ-ர்வரலக்ஷ்மீஶ்ச ப்ரஸன்னா மம ஸர்வதா³ ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
May Siddha Lakshmi, Moksha Lakshmi, Jaya Lakshmi, Sarasvati, Sri Lakshmi, and Vara Lakshmi always be gracious to me.

வராங்குஶௌ பாஶமபீ⁴தி முத்³ராம் ।
கரைர்வஹந்தீம் கமலாஸனஸ்தா²ம் ।
பா³லார்ககோடி ப்ரதிபா⁴ம் த்ரினேத்ராம் ।
பஜ⁴ேஹமம்பா³ம் ஜக³தீ³ஶ்வரீம் தாம் ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
I worship the Mother, ruler of the universe, seated on a lotus, bearing boon, goad, noose, and fear-removing gesture, three-eyed and radiant like millions of rising suns.

ஸர்வமங்கள³ மாங்கள³்யே ஶிவே ஸர்வார்த² ஸாதி⁴கே ।
ஶரண்யே த்ய்ரம்ப³கே தே³வீ நாராயணி நமோஸ்துதே ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Salutations to Narayani, the auspiciousness of all auspicious things, the refuge-giving Goddess who accomplishes all worthy aims and turns life toward protection, fulfillment, and grace.

ஓம் ம॒ஹா॒தே॒³வ்யை ச॑ வி॒த்³மஹே॑ விஷ்ணுப॒த்னீ ச॑ தீ⁴மஹி ।
தன்னோ॑ லக்ஷ்மீ: ப்ரசோ॒த³யா᳚த் ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
May we know the great Goddess; we meditate on the consort of Vishnu. May Lakshmi inspire and guide us.

ஶ்ரீ-ர்வர்ச॑ஸ்வ॒-மாயு॑ஷ்ய॒-மாரோ᳚க்³ய॒-மாவீ॑தா॒⁴த்-ஶோப॑⁴மானம் மஹீ॒யதே᳚ ।
தா॒⁴ன்யம் த॒⁴னம் ப॒ஶும் ப॒³ஹுபு॑த்ரலா॒ப⁴ம் ஶ॒தஸம்᳚வத்ஸ॒ரம் தீ॒³ர்க⁴மாயு:॑ ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
May Sri grant brilliance, long life, health, beauty, grain, wealth, cattle, many descendants, and a long lifespan of a hundred years.

ஓம் ஶாந்தி:॒ ஶாந்தி:॒ ஶாந்தி:॑ ॥

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
May peace settle at every level: in divine forces, in the outer world, and within the mind, so that Sri may become calm, lasting auspiciousness.
