ஶ்ரீ மஹிஷாஸுர மர்தி³னீ ஸ்தோத்ரம் is a powerful hymn to the Goddess as the destroyer of Mahishasura, the buffalo-demon who represents brute arrogance, violence, and shape-shifting ego. Its rhythmic refrain ஜய ஜய ஹே மஹிஷாஸுரமர்தி³னி celebrates Devi as beauty, strength, protection, and the victorious energy of த⁴ர்ம.
In many living devotional traditions the hymn is sung in connection with ஆதி³ ஶங்கராசார்ய, while its historical attribution is discussed in different ways. Victory, victory to you, O daughter of the mountain, delighter of the earth and universe, dweller on the Vindhya peak, delight of Vishnu, praised by Indra, belonging to Shiva's family, mother of all, beautiful mountain-born crusher of Mahishasura.

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Victory to you who shower blessings on the gods, subdue the unconquerable, remove impurity, nourish the three worlds, delight Shiva, and dry up the pride of hostile demonic forces.
அயி ஜக³த³ம்ப³ மத³ம்ப³ கத³ம்ப³வனப்ரியவாஸினி ஹாஸரதே
ஶிக²ரி ஶிரோமணி துங்க³ஹிமாலய ஶ்ருங்க³னிஜாலய மத்⁴யக³தே ।

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
O Mother of the world, my Mother, lover of the kadamba grove, smiling one who dwells on the high Himalayan peaks, honey-sweet destroyer of Madhu and Kaitabha, victory to you who delights in divine play.
அயி ஶதக²ண்ட³ விக²ண்டி³தருண்ட³ விதுண்டி³தஶுண்ட³ கஜ³ாதி⁴பதே
ரிபுகஜ³க³ண்ட³ விதா³ரணசண்ட³ பராக்ரமஶுண்ட³ ம்ருகா³தி⁴பதே ।

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Victory to the lion-riding Goddess whose own powerful arms shatter the heads, trunks, and proud elephant-like forces of the enemy in battle.
அயி ரணது³ர்மத³ ஶத்ருவதோ⁴தி³த து³ர்த⁴ரனிர்ஜர ஶக்திப்⁴ருதே
சதுரவிசாரது⁴ரீண மஹாஶிவ தூ³தக்ருத ப்ரமதா²தி⁴பதே ।
து³ரிதது³ரீஹ து³ராஶய து³ர்மதி தா³னவதூ³த க்ருதாந்தமதே

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Victory to the Goddess who bears the gods' irresistible power, wisely directs even Shiva as messenger, and brings an end to sinful, evil-minded demonic arrogance.
அயி ஶரணாக³த வைரிவதூ⁴வர வீரவராப⁴யதா³யகரே
த்ரிபு⁴வன மஸ்தக ஶூலவிரோதி⁴ ஶிரோதி⁴க்ருதாமல ஶூலகரே ।
து³மிது³மிதாமர து³ந்து³பி⁴னாத³ மஹோ முக²ரீக்ருத திக்³மகரே
ஜய ஜய ஹே மஹிஷாஸுரமர்தி³னி ரம்யகபர்தி³னி ஶைலஸுதே ॥ 6 ॥
Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Victory to the refuge-giving Mother who grants fearlessness, wields the pure trident against hostile forces, and fills the heavens with the resounding drums of victory.
அயி நிஜஹுங்க்ருதிமாத்ர நிராக்ருத தூ⁴ம்ரவிலோசன தூ⁴ம்ரஶதே
ஸமரவிஶோஷித ஶோணிதபீ³ஜ ஸமுத்³ப⁴வஶோணித பீ³ஜலதே ।
ஶிவ ஶிவ ஶும்ப⁴ நிஶும்ப⁴ மஹாஹவ தர்பித பூ⁴த பிஶாசரதே

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Victory to the Goddess whose very cry destroys Dhumralochana, who dries up the blood-seed of Raktabija in battle, and who defeats Shumbha and Nishumbha amid the fierce hosts.
த⁴னுரனுஸங்க³ ரணக்ஷணஸங்க³ பரிஸ்பு²ரத³ங்க³ நடத்கடகே
கனக பிஶங்க³ ப்ருஷத்கனிஷங்க³ரஸத்³ப⁴ட ஶ்ருங்க³ ஹதாவடுகே ।

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Victory to the Goddess whose flashing limbs, bow, quiver, warriors, and fourfold army move in brilliant battle order against the forces of adharma.
ஸுரலலனா தததே²யி ததே²யி க்ருதாபி⁴னயோத³ர ந்ருத்யரதே
க்ருத குகுத:² குகுதோ² க³ட³தா³தி³கதால குதூஹல கா³னரதே ।

Victory to the Goddess who delights in celestial dance, expressive movement, eager song, and the powerful rhythms of drums resounding in devotion.

Victory to the universally praised Goddess, worthy of repeated japa, whose anklets ring with enchanting sound and who delights in dance, drama, and beautiful song.

ஶ்ரித ரஜனீ ரஜனீ ரஜனீ ரஜனீ ரஜனீகர வக்த்ரவ்ருதே ।

Victory to the mountain-born Goddess whose captivating beauty delights noble minds, whose moon-like face shines, and whose lovely eyes draw bee-like devotion.
ஸஹித மஹாஹவ மல்லம தல்லிக மல்லித ரல்லக மல்லரதே
விரசித வல்லிக பல்லிக மல்லிக பி⁴ல்லிக பி⁴ல்லிக வர்க³ வ்ருதே ।
ஸிதக்ருத பு²ல்லஸமுல்லஸிதாருண தல்லஜ பல்லவ ஸல்லலிதே
ஜய ஜய ஹே மஹிஷாஸுரமர்தி³னி ரம்யகபர்தி³னி ஶைலஸுதே ॥ 12 ॥
Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Victory to the Goddess who is present in heroic battle and also in blossoming groves, surrounded by attendants and adorned with the grace of tender red leaves and flowers.
அவிரலக³ண்ட³க³லன்மத³மேது³ர மத்தமதங்கஜ³ ராஜபதே
த்ரிபு⁴வனபூ⁴ஷண பூ⁴தகலானிதி⁴ ரூபபயோனிதி⁴ ராஜஸுதே ।
அயி ஸுத³தீஜன லாலஸமானஸ மோஹனமன்மத² ராஜஸுதே
ஜய ஜய ஹே மஹிஷாஸுரமர்தி³னி ரம்யகபர்தி³னி ஶைலஸுதே ॥ 13 ॥
Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Victory to the royal daughter, ornament of the three worlds, ocean of beauty and treasure of arts, whose majesty surpasses intoxicated royal elephants and enchants every refined mind.
கமலத³லாமல கோமலகாந்தி கலாகலிதாமல பா⁴லலதே
ஸகலவிலாஸ களானிலய க்ரமகேலிசலத்கலஹம்ஸகுலே ।
அலிகுல ஸங்குல குவலய மண்ட³ல மௌலிமிலத்³ப⁴குலாலி குலே
ஜய ஜய ஹே மஹிஷாஸுரமர்தி³னி ரம்யகபர்தி³னி ஶைலஸுதே ॥ 14 ॥
Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Victory to the Goddess of lotus-pure tenderness, abode of graceful arts, surrounded by playful swans, bees, blue lotuses, and fragrant blossoms.
கரமுரளீரவ வீஜித கூஜித லஜ்ஜிதகோகில மஞ்ஜுமதே
மிலித புலிந்த³ மனோஹர கு³ஞ்ஜித ரஞ்ஜிதஶைல நிகுஞ்ஜக³தே ।
நிஜகு³ணபூ⁴த மஹாஶப³ரீக³ண ஸத்³கு³ணஸம்ப்⁴ருத கேளிதலே
ஜய ஜய ஹே மஹிஷாஸுரமர்தி³னி ரம்யகபர்தி³னி ஶைலஸுதே ॥ 15 ॥
Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Victory to the charming Mother whose music humbles the cuckoo, whose presence delights mountain groves and forest devotees, and whose playfield is filled with noble qualities.
கடிதடபீத து³கூலவிசித்ர மயூக²திரஸ்க்ருத சந்த்³ரருசே
ப்ரணதஸுராஸுர மௌளிமணிஸ்பு²ர த³ம்ஶுலஸன்னக² சந்த்³ரருசே ।
ஜிதகனகாசல மௌளிபதோ³ர்ஜித நிர்ப⁴ரகுஞ்ஜர கும்ப⁴குசே
ஜய ஜய ஹே மஹிஷாஸுரமர்தி³னி ரம்யகபர்தி³னி ஶைலஸுதே ॥ 16 ॥
Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Victory to the Goddess clothed in yellow silk, outshining moonlight, whose toenails flash with rays from the crown-jewels of bowing gods and asuras, and whose form surpasses golden mountains in splendor.
விஜித ஸஹஸ்ரகரைக ஸஹஸ்ரகரைக ஸஹஸ்ரகரைகனுதே
க்ருத ஸுரதாரக ஸங்க³ரதாரக ஸங்க³ரதாரக ஸூனுஸுதே ।
ஸுரத²ஸமாதி⁴ ஸமானஸமாதி⁴ ஸமாதி⁴ ஸமாதி⁴ ஸுஜாதரதே

Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Victory to the Goddess praised by the thousand-rayed sun, savior of the gods in battle, and gracious to devotees like Suratha and Samadhi who sought refuge in her.
பத³கமலம் கருணானிலயே வரிவஸ்யதி யோனுதி³னம் ஸ ஶிவே
அயி கமலே கமலானிலயே கமலானிலய: ஸ கத²ம் ந ப⁴வேத் ।
தவ பத³மேவ பரம்பத³மித்யனுஶீலயதோ மம கிம் ந ஶிவே
ஜய ஜய ஹே மஹிஷாஸுரமர்தி³னி ரம்யகபர்தி³னி ஶைலஸுதே ॥ 18 ॥
Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
O compassionate, auspicious lotus-goddess, how can one who worships your lotus feet daily fail to become lotus-like? For one who contemplates your feet as the supreme goal, what blessing is impossible?
கனகலஸத்கல ஸிந்து⁴ஜலைரனுஸிஞ்சினுதே கு³ணரங்க³பு⁴வம்
பஜ⁴தி ஸ கிம் ந ஶசீகுசகும்ப⁴ தடீபரிரம்ப⁴ ஸுகா²னுப⁴வம் ।
தவ சரணம் ஶரணம் கரவாணி நதாமரவாணி நிவாஸி ஶிவம்
ஜய ஜய ஹே மஹிஷாஸுரமர்தி³னி ரம்யகபர்தி³னி ஶைலஸுதே ॥ 19 ॥
Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Those who worship you with golden vessels and sacred waters may gain heavenly joys, but I make your feet my refuge, O one praised by the gods; may that refuge be auspicious.
தவ விமலேந்து³குலம் வத³னேந்து³மலம் ஸகலம் நனு கூலயதே
கிமு புருஹூத புரீந்து³முகீ² ஸுமுகீ²பி⁴ரஸௌ விமுகீ²க்ரியதே ।
மம து மதம் ஶிவனாமத⁴னே ப⁴வதீ க்ருபயா கிமுத க்ரியதே
ஜய ஜய ஹே மஹிஷாஸுரமர்தி³னி ரம்யகபர்தி³னி ஶைலஸுதே ॥ 2௦ ॥
Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
Your pure moon-like face draws all beauty together; by your grace, what could be denied to one whose true wealth is the name of Shiva?
அயி மயி தீ³னத³யாலுதயா க்ருபயைவ த்வயா ப⁴விதவ்யமுமே
அயி ஜக³தோ ஜனனீ க்ருபயாஸி யதா²ஸி ததா²னுபி⁴தாஸிரதே ।
யது³சிதமத்ர ப⁴வத்யுரரி குருதாது³ருதாபமபாகுரு தே [மே]
ஜய ஜய ஹே மஹிஷாஸுரமர்தி³னி ரம்யகபர்தி³னி ஶைலஸுதே ॥ 21 ॥
Translation (பா⁴வார்த²):
O Uma, Mother of the world, be gracious to me with compassion for the helpless. As you truly are, please do what is fitting here and remove this terrible distress.
