த்ரிதி³வவர்த⁴கிவர்தி⁴தகௌஶலம் த்ரித³ஶத³த்தஸமஸ்தவிபூ⁴திமத் ।
ஜலதி⁴மத்⁴யக³தம் த்வமபூ⁴ஷயோ நவபுரம் வபுரஞ்சிதரோசிஷா ॥1॥
Meaning
த்ரிதி³வ-வர்த⁴கி- - heaven's architect; வர்தி⁴த-கௌஶலம் - excelling the skill; த்ரித³ஶ-த³த்த- - by the gods given; ஸமஸ்த-விபூ⁴திமத் - all the majesties; ஜலதி⁴-மத்⁴யக³தம் - in the ocean's middle situated; த்வம்-அபூ⁴ஷய: - Thou adorned; நவ-புரம் - the new city; வபு:-அஞ்சித- - by Thy form's marked; ரோசிஷா - resplendence;
Translation
Even though Vishwakarmaa, the divine architect had employed all his excellent skills in building it and the gods had lavished all their divine embellishments on the city, which was situated in the middle of the ocean, it was adorned by the marked resplendence of Thy form.
ஶ்லோக:
த³து³ஷி ரேவதபூ⁴ப்⁴ருதி ரேவதீம் ஹலப்⁴ருதே தனயாம் விதி⁴ஶாஸனாத் ।
மஹிதமுத்ஸவகோ⁴ஷமபூபுஷ: ஸமுதி³தைர்முதி³தை: ஸஹ யாத³வை: ॥2॥
Meaning
த³து³ஷி - (when) was given; ரேவத-பூ⁴ப்⁴ருதி - by the Revata king; ரேவதீம் ஹலப்⁴ருதே - Revatee for Balaraam; தனயாம் - the daughter; விதி⁴-ஶாஸனாத் - by Brahmaa's instructions; மஹிதம்-உத்ஸவ- - great festive; கோ⁴ஷம்-அபூபுஷ: - celebration was performed by Thee; ஸமுதி³தை:-முதி³தை: - who had gathered happily; ஸஹ யாத³வை: - with the Yaadavas;
Translation
At the instructions of Brahmaa, the king of Revata gave his daughter Revatee in marriage to Balaraam. On this event with all the Yaadavaas, who had assembled, Thou happily performed a great festive celebration.
ஶ்லோக:
அத² வித³ர்ப⁴ஸுதாம் க²லு ருக்மிணீம் ப்ரணயினீம் த்வயி தே³வ ஸஹோத³ர: ।
ஸ்வயமதி³த்ஸத சேதி³மஹீபு⁴ஜே ஸ்வதமஸா தமஸாது⁴முபாஶ்ரயன் ॥3॥
Meaning
அத² வித³ர்ப-⁴ஸுதாம் - then, king of Vidarbh's (Bheeshmaka's) daughter; க²லு ருக்மிணீம் - indeed Rukmini; ப்ரணயினீம் த்வயி - in love with Thee; தே³வ ஸஹோத³ர: - O Lord! Her brother; ஸ்வயம்-அதி³த்ஸத - of his own will decided to give; சேதி³-மஹீபு⁴ஜே - to the Chedi king (Shishupaal); ஸ்வ-தமஸா - because of his Tamas guna, ignorance; தம்-அஸாது⁴ம்- - him the non virtuous; உபாஶ்ரயன் - having made him a friend;
Translation
The daughter of the king of Vidarbh (Bheeshmaka), Rukmini was indeed in love with Thee. O Lord! Her brother,Rukmi, due to his ignorance caused by his Tamas guna, of his own will resolved to give her to the Chedi king Shishupaal. Rukmi had made friends with Shishupaal who was totally non virtuous.
ஶ்லோக:
சிரத்⁴ருதப்ரணயா த்வயி பா³லிகா ஸபதி³ காங்க்ஷிதப⁴ங்க³ஸமாகுலா ।
தவ நிவேத³யிதும் த்³விஜமாதி³ஶத் ஸ்வகத³னம் கத³னங்க³வினிர்மிதம் ॥4॥
Meaning
சிர-த்⁴ருத-ப்ரணயா - for long holding love; த்வயி பா³லிகா - for Thee, the girl; ஸபதி³ - at once; காங்க்ஷித-ப⁴ங்க-³ - (her) desire being broken; ஸமாகுலா - (foreseeing) and distressed; தவ நிவேத³யிதும் - to Thee, to communicate; த்³விஜம்-ஆதி³ஶத் - a Braahmin instructed; ஸ்வ-கத³னம் - her distress; கத³ன-அங்க-³ - the cruel Cupid; வினிர்மிதம் - caused by;
Translation
For a long time holding love for Thee, which was brought about by the cruel Cupid, the girl at once instructed a Brahmin to acquaint Thee of her distress by the immanent threat to the fulfillment of her desire,
ஶ்லோக:
த்³விஜஸுதோபி ச தூர்ணமுபாயயௌ தவ புரம் ஹி து³ராஶது³ராஸத³ம் ।
முத³மவாப ச ஸாத³ரபூஜித: ஸ ப⁴வதா ப⁴வதாபஹ்ருதா ஸ்வயம் ॥5॥
Meaning
த்³விஜ-ஸுத:-அபி - the Brahmin boy also; ச தூர்ணம்-உபாயயௌ - and soon reached; தவ புரம் ஹி - Thy city indeed; து³ராஶ-து³ராஸத³ம் - for the wicked inaccessible; முத³ம்-அவாப ச - and great joy attained; ஸாத³ர-பூஜித: - with the honour received; ஸ ப⁴வதா - he (was) by Thee; ப⁴வ-தாப-ஹ்ருதா - (who are) from worldly afflictions, the remover; ஸ்வயம் - Thyself;
Translation
The Brahmin boy soon reached Thy city which is inaccessible to wicked minded people. He was highly delighted and attained great joy on being received with honour by Thyself the remover of the worldly travails and afflictions of men.
ஶ்லோக:
ஸ ச ப⁴வந்தமவோசத குண்டி³னே ந்ருபஸுதா க²லு ராஜதி ருக்மிணீ ।
த்வயி ஸமுத்ஸுகயா நிஜதீ⁴ரதாரஹிதயா ஹி தயா ப்ரஹிதோஸ்ம்யஹம் ॥6॥
Meaning
ஸ ச - he and; ப⁴வந்தம்-அவோசத - to Thee said; குண்டி³னே - in Kundina; ந்ருப-ஸுதா க²லு - the king's daughter indeed; ராஜதி ருக்மிணீ - shines Rukmini; த்வயி ஸமுத்ஸுகயா - in Thee deeply in love; நிஜ-தீ⁴ரதா-ரஹிதயா - her own restrain loosing; ஹி தயா ப்ரஹித:- - indeed by her sent; அஸ்மி-அஹம் - am I;
Translation
And he said to Thee 'In Kundinaa (capital of Vidarbha) lives the noble princess Rukmini. She is deeply in love with Thee. She who has lost her own restrain has indeed sent me here.'
ஶ்லோக:
தவ ஹ்ருதாஸ்மி புரைவ கு³ணைரஹம் ஹரதி மாம் கில சேதி³ன்ருபோது⁴னா ।
அயி க்ருபாலய பாலய மாமிதி ப்ரஜக³தே³ ஜக³தே³கபதே தயா ॥7॥
Meaning
தவ ஹ்ருதா-அஸ்மி - by Thee captivated am I; புரா-ஏவ - since long even; கு³ணை:-அஹம் - by (Thy) excellences, I; ஹரதி மாம் கில - capturing me indeed is; சேதி³-ன்ருப:-அது⁴னா - the Chedi king now; அயி க்ருபாலய (க்ருபா-ஆலய) - O Abode of Compassion!; பாலய மாம்-இதி - save me, thus; ப்ரஜக³தே³ - was prayed; ஜக³தே³கபதே (ஜக³த்-ஏக-பதே) - O Lord of the worlds!; தயா - by her;
Translation
From long since I am a captive of Thy excellences. Now the king of Chedi (Shishupaal) is going to captivate me. O Abode of Compassion! Save me.' O Lord of the worlds! Thus she prayed to Thee.
ஶ்லோக:
அஶரணாம் யதி³ மாம் த்வமுபேக்ஷஸே ஸபதி³ ஜீவிதமேவ ஜஹாம்யஹம் ।
இதி கி³ரா ஸுதனோரதனோத் ப்⁴ருஶம் ஸுஹ்ருத³யம் ஹ்ருத³யம் தவ காதரம் ॥8॥
Meaning
அஶரணாம் - helpless; யதி³ மாம் - if me; த்வம்-உபேக்ஷஸே - Thou forsake; ஸபதி³ ஜீவிதம்-ஏவ - soon life itself; ஜஹாமி-அஹம் - will kill I; இதி கி³ரா ஸுதனோ:- - these words of the fair one; அதனோத் ப்⁴ருஶம் - brought about deep; ஸுஹ்ருத்-அயம் - by this good hearted (Braahmin); ஹ்ருத³யம் தவ காதரம் - (in) heart Thy agitation;
Translation
If Thou will forsake me, the helpless one, I will certainly end my life soon.' This massage of the fair Rukmini from the good hearted Braahmin, brought about deep agitation in Thy heart.
ஶ்லோக:
அகத²யஸ்த்வமதை²னமயே ஸகே² தத³தி⁴கா மம மன்மத²வேத³னா ।
ந்ருபஸமக்ஷமுபேத்ய ஹராம்யஹம் தத³யி தாம் த³யிதாமஸிதேக்ஷணாம் ॥9॥
Meaning
அகத²ய:- - told; த்வம்-அத-²ஏனம்- - Thou then to him; அயே ஸகே² - O friend!; தத்-அதி⁴கா - more than her; மம மன்மத-²வேத³னா - (are) my love pangs; ந்ருப ஸமக்ஷம்- - in the front of the kings; உபேத்ய ஹராமி-அஹம் - coming there will take away I; தத்-அயி தாம் - so it is, O (friend), that; த³யிதாம்-அஸித-ஈக்ஷணாம் - dear dark eyed one;
Translation
Thou then told him, 'O friend! My love pangs are more intense than hers. Therefore, I will come, and in presence of the kings, take away the dear dark eyed one.'
ஶ்லோக:
ப்ரமுதி³தேன ச தேன ஸமம் ததா³ ரத²க³தோ லகு⁴ குண்டி³னமேயிவான் ।
கு³ருமருத்புரனாயக மே ப⁴வான் விதனுதாம் தனுதாம் நிகி²லாபதா³ம் ॥1௦॥
Meaning
ப்ரமுதி³தேன ச - and with the delighted; தேன ஸமம் ததா³ - with him then; ரத-²க³த: லகு⁴ - getting into the chariot immediately; குண்டி³னம்-ஏயிவான் - to Kundina (Thou) reached; கு³ருமருத்புரனாயக - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; மே ப⁴வான் - of me, Thou; விதனுதாம் தனுதாம் - deign to bring about relief; நிகி²ல-ஆபதா³ம் - from all my afflictions;
Translation
O Lord of Guruvaayur! Along with the highly delighted Braahmin, Thou immediately got into the chariot and soon reached Kundina. May Thou deign to bring about relief for me from all my afflictions.
