ஶ்லோக:
ஸ்வாயம்பு⁴வோ மனுரதோ² ஜனஸர்க³ஶீலோ
த்³ருஷ்ட்வா மஹீமஸமயே ஸலிலே நிமக்³னாம் ।
ஸ்ரஷ்டாரமாப ஶரணம் ப⁴வத³ங்க்⁴ரிஸேவா-
துஷ்டாஶயம் முனிஜனை: ஸஹ ஸத்யலோகே ॥1॥
Meaning
ஸ்வாயம்பு⁴வ: மனு: - Swaayambhuva Manu; அத:² ஜனஸர்க³ஶீல: - then, who was engaged in creation; த்³ருஷ்ட்வா மஹீம்- - seeing the earth,; அஸமயே ஸலிலே நிமக்³னாம் - at a wrong time, being immersed in water; ஸ்ரஷ்டாரம்-ஆப ஶரணம் - in the creator, Brahmaa, sought refuge; ப⁴வத்-அங்க்⁴ரி-ஸேவா - in the service of Thy lotus feet; துஷ்ட-ஆஶயம் - whose heart delighted; முனிஜனை: ஸஹ - along with the other sages; ஸத்யலோகே - in Satyaaloka;
Translation
Then Swaayambhuva Manu who was engaged in the work of creation, saw the earth emerged in water, untimely (when there was no Pralaya). He went to Satyaloka, in supplication to Brahmaa, the creator, whose heart delighted in the service of Thy lotus feet, along with the other sages.
ஶ்லோக:
கஷ்டம் ப்ரஜா: ஸ்ருஜதி மய்யவனிர்னிமக்³னா
ஸ்தா²னம் ஸரோஜப⁴வ கல்பய தத் ப்ரஜானாம் ।
இத்யேவமேஷ கதி²தோ மனுனா ஸ்வயம்பூ⁴: -
ரம்போ⁴ருஹாக்ஷ தவ பாத³யுக³ம் வ்யசிந்தீத் ॥ 2 ॥
Meaning
கஷ்டம் - alas!; ப்ரஜா: ஸ்ருஜதி மயி- - while I am creating beings; அவனி: -னிமக்³னா - the earth is immersed; ஸ்தா²னம் - place; ஸரோஜபவ⁴ - O Lotus Born! (Brahmaa); கல்பய தத்-ப்ரஜானாம் - provide therefore for the beings; இதி-ஏவம்-ஏஷ - thus he (Brahmaa); கதி²த: மனுனா ஸ்வயம்பூ⁴: - - being told by Manu Swaayambhu; அம்போ⁴ருஹாக்ஷ - O Lotus eyed Lord!; தவ பாத³யுக³ம் - Thy two feet; வ்யசிந்தீத் - (he) contemplated on;
Translation
Swaayambhuva Manu told the lotus born Brahmaa that it was a pity that the earth was submerged as he was creating beings. He asked for a place to be created for the beings. Hearing this Brahmaa started to contemplate on Thy two lotus feet, for a solution to the problem.
ஶ்லோக:
ஹா ஹா விபோ⁴ ஜலமஹம் ந்யபிப³ம் புரஸ்தா-
த³த்³யாபி மஜ்ஜதி மஹீ கிமஹம் கரோமி ।
இத்த²ம் த்வத³ங்க்⁴ரியுக³லம் ஶரணம் யதோஸ்ய
நாஸாபுடாத் ஸமப⁴வ: ஶிஶுகோலரூபீ ।3॥
Meaning
ஹா ஹா விபோ⁴ - Oh! Oh! Lord!; ஜலம்-அஹம் ந்யபிப³ம் - I drank the waters; புரஸ்தாத்- - previously also; அத்³ய-அபி மஜ்ஜதி மஹீ - (yet) the earth is submerging; கிம்-அஹம் கரோமி - what shall I do; இத்த²ம் - saying so; த்வத்-அங்க்⁴ரி-யுக³லம் - at Thy pair of feet; ஶரணம் யத: - - who had taken refuge; அஸ்ய நாஸாபுடாத் - from his (Brahmaa's) nostrils; ஸமப⁴வ: - Thou emerged; ஶிஶு-கோல-ரூபீ - in a child boar's form;
Translation
Brahmaa took refuge at Thy pair of lotus feet saying that he had earlier also drunk the waters and that the earth was still submerging and he did not know what to do. From Brahmaa's nostrils, who was saying thus, Thou emerged in the form of a child boar.
ஶ்லோக:
அங்கு³ஷ்ட²மாத்ரவபுருத்பதித: புரஸ்தாத்
போ⁴யோத² கும்பி⁴ஸத்³ருஶ: ஸமஜ்ரும்ப⁴தா²ஸ்த்வம் ।
அப்⁴ரே ததா²வித⁴முதீ³க்ஷ்ய ப⁴வந்தமுச்சை -
ர்விஸ்மேரதாம் விதி⁴ரகா³த் ஸஹ ஸூனுபி⁴: ஸ்வை: ॥4॥
Meaning
அங்கு³ஷ்ட-²மாத்ர-வபு:- - with a body of the size of a thumb; உத்பதித: - emerged; புரஸ்தாத் - at first; பூ⁴ய: -அத² - gradually then; கும்பி⁴-ஸத்³ருஶ: - an elephant in size; ஸமஜ்ரும்ப⁴தா²: - த்வம் - did Thou grow; அப்⁴ரே - in the sky; ததா²-வித⁴ம்-உதீ³க்ஷ்ய - in that form seeing; ப⁴வந்தம்-உச்சை: - Thou so big; விஸ்மேரதாம் விதி⁴: -அகா³த் - wonder struck Brahmaa was; ஸஹ ஸூனுபி⁴: ஸ்வை: - with his own sons;
Translation
At first Thy size was of a thumb, then it gradually grew to the size of an elephant. Brahmaa and his sons were wonder struck seeing Thy huge form in the sky.
ஶ்லோக:
கோஸாவசிந்த்யமஹிமா கிடிருத்தி²தோ மே
நாஸாபுடாத் கிமு ப⁴வேதஜ³ிதஸ்ய மாயா ।
இத்த²ம் விசிந்தயதி தா⁴தரி ஶைலமாத்ர:
ஸத்³யோ ப⁴வன் கில ஜக³ர்ஜித² கோ⁴ரகோ⁴ரம் ॥5॥
Meaning
க: -அஸௌ- - who is this; அசிந்த்ய-மஹிமா - of unconceivable glory; கிடி: -உத்தி²த:- - this boar which has emerged; மே நாஸாபுடாத் - from my nostrils; கிமு ப⁴வேத்- - or is it; அஜிதஸ்ய மாயா - the Invincible Lord's Maaya; இத்த²ம் விசிந்தயதி - thus (as Brahmaa was) contemplating; தா⁴தரி - Brahmaa,; ஶைலமாத்ர: - the size of a mountain; ஸத்³ய: ப⁴வன் - soon becoming (Thou); கில ஜக³ர்ஜித² - indeed roared; கோ⁴ரகோ⁴ரம் - in a terrific manner;
Translation
Brahmaa was wondering as to who the glorious boar was which had come out from his nostrils. As he was trying to reflect if it was the work of the Invincible Lord's Maayaa, Thee in the form of the boar became the size of a mountain and roared fiercely.

தம் தே நினாத³முபகர்ண்ய ஜனஸ்தப:ஸ்தா²:
ஸத்யஸ்தி²தாஶ்ச முனயோ நுனுவுர்ப⁴வந்தம் ।
தத்ஸ்தோத்ரஹர்ஷுலமனா: பரிணத்³ய பூ⁴ய-
ஸ்தோயாஶயம் விபுலமூர்திரவாதரஸ்த்வம் ॥6॥
Meaning
தம் தே நினாத³ம்- - that Thine roar; உபகர்ண்ய - hearing; ஜன:-தப:-ஸ்தா²: - the inhabitants of the Jana and Tapa lokas; ஸத்ய-ஸ்தி²தா: -ச - and those in the Satyaloka; முனய: - sages; நுனுவு: -ப⁴வந்தம் - praised Thee; தத்-ஸ்தோத்ர-ஹர்ஷுல-மனா: - by their praises pleased; பரிணத்³ய பூ⁴ய: - roaring again; தோயாஶயம் - in the ocean; விபுல-மூர்தி: - - assuming a huge form; அவாதர: -த்வம் - Thou jumped;
Translation
Hearing that fierce roar of Thine, the resident sages of the Jana, Tapa and Satya loka praised Thee. Pleased by their praises, Thou assumed a huge form and roaring again jumped into the ocean.

ஊர்த்⁴வப்ரஸாரிபரிதூ⁴ம்ரவிதூ⁴தரோமா
ப்ரோத்க்ஷிப்தவாலதி⁴ரவாங்முக²கோ⁴ரகோ⁴ண: ।
தூர்ணப்ரதீ³ர்ணஜலத:³ பரிகூ⁴ர்ணத³க்ஷ்ணா
ஸ்தோத்ருன் முனீன் ஶிஶிரயன்னவதேரித² த்வம் ॥7॥
Meaning
ஊர்த்⁴வ-ப்ரஸாரி- - (with) standing erect; பரிதூ⁴ம்ர-விதூ⁴த-ரோமா - dark red colored shivering hair; ப்ரோத்க்ஷிப்த-வாலதி⁴: - lifted up tail; அவாங்-முக-²கோ⁴ர-கோ⁴ண: - pointing downwards the fierce snout; தூர்ண-ப்ரதீ³ர்ண-ஜலத:³ - with ease breaking through the clouds; பரிகூ⁴ர்ணத்-அக்ஷ்ணா - rolling eyes; ஸ்தோத்ருன் முனீன் - the praising sages; ஶிஶிரயன்- - delighting; அவதேரித² த்வம் - jumped down Thou;
Translation
With Thy twitching and erect reddish hair, tail lifted up and the fierce snout pointing down and the eyes rolling, delighting the sages who were praising Thee, Thou easily broke through the clouds and jumped.

அந்தர்ஜலம் தத³னுஸங்குலனக்ரசக்ரம்
ப்⁴ராம்யத்திமிங்கி³லகுலம் கலுஷோர்மிமாலம் ।
ஆவிஶ்ய பீ⁴ஷணரவேண ரஸாதலஸ்தா² -
நாகம்பயன் வஸுமதீமக³வேஷயஸ்த்வம் ॥8॥
Meaning
அந்தர்ஜலம் - the waters' insides; தத³னு- - then; ஸங்குல-னக்ர-சக்ரம் - with moving about crocodiles; ப்⁴ராம்யத்-திமிங்கி³ல-குலம் - with whirling around whales; கலுஷ-உர்மி-மாலம் - with turbulent waters; ஆவிஶ்ய - entering; பீ⁴ஷண-ரவேண - with a fierce roar; ரஸாதலஸ்தா²ன்- - the inhabitants of the nether worlds; ஆகம்பயன் - shaking; வஸுமதீம்- - the earth; அக³வேஷய: - - searched for; த்வம் - Thou;
Translation
Thou entered the insides of the waters where the crocodiles were moving about, whales were whirling around and which was full of turbulent waves. The inhabitants of the nether worlds shook with fear as with a fierce roar Thou searched for the earth.

த்³ருஷ்ட்வாத² தை³த்யஹதகேன ரஸாதலாந்தே
ஸம்வேஶிதாம் ஜ²டிதி கூடகிடிர்விபோ⁴ த்வம் ।
ஆபாதுகானவிக³ணய்ய ஸுராரிகே²டான்
த³ம்ஷ்ட்ராங்குரேண வஸுதா⁴மத³தா⁴: ஸலீலம் ॥9॥
Meaning
த்³ருஷ்ட்வா-அத² - seeing then (the earth); தை³த்ய-ஹதகேன - by the wicked Asura; ரஸாதல-அந்தே - at the bottom of the Rasaatala; ஸம்வேஶிதாம் - concealed; ஜ²டிதி - in no time; கூட-கிடி: - - (Thou who had by Maaya) assumed the form of a boar; விபோ⁴ த்வம் - O Lord! Thou,; ஆபாதுகான்- - the rushing (Asuras); அவிக³ண்ய்ய - neglecting; ஸுராரி-கே²டான் - the wretched Asuraas; த³ம்ஷ்ட்ர-அங்குரேண - with the tusk's tip; வஸுதா⁴ம்-அத³தா⁴: - the earth lifted up; ஸலீலம் - as if in sport;
Translation
O Lord! Then seeing the earth concealed at the bottom of the Rasaatal, by the wretched Asura, Thou hastily lifted it up with the tip of the tusk of the boar, a form which Thou had asummed by Maaya. Treating the Asura with disdain who was rushing at Thee. All this was a mere sport for Thee.

முஸ்தாங்குராங்கித இவாதி⁴கபீவராத்மா ।

Meaning
அப்⁴யுத்³த⁴ரன்-அத² - lifting up, then; த⁴ராம் - the earth; த³ஶன-அக்³ர-லக்³னம் - in the tooth front stuck; முஸ்த-அங்குர-அங்கித இவ - a blade of grass as if; அதி⁴க-பீவர-ஆத்மா - with a gigantic body; உத்³தூ⁴த-கோ⁴ர-ஸலிலாத்-ஜலதே⁴:- - from the fiercely shaken up waters of the ocean,; உத³ஞ்சன் - emerging; க்ரீடா³-வராஹ-வபு: -ஈஶ்வர - sportingly (taking the form) of a boar body, O Lord!; பாஹி ரோகா³த் - save me from disease;
Translation
Thou who had sportingly assumed the body of a boar, lifted the earth from the frightening turbulent waters of the ocean. On Thy gigantic body, the earth looked like a blade of grass stuck on the tip Thy tusk. O Lord! Save me from the disease.
