மதிரிஹ கு³ணஸக்தா ப³ந்த⁴க்ருத்தேஷ்வஸக்தா
த்வம்ருதக்ருது³பருந்தே⁴ ப⁴க்தியோக³ஸ்து ஸக்திம் ।
மஹத³னுக³மலப்⁴யா ப⁴க்திரேவாத்ர ஸாத்⁴யா
கபிலதனுரிதி த்வம் தே³வஹூத்யை ந்யகா³தீ³: ॥1॥
Meaning
மதி: இஹ - the intellect, here (in this world); கு³ண-ஸக்தா - which is attached to the Gunas (and so to the sense objects); ப³ந்த⁴க்ருத்- - is the cause of bondage; தேஷு-அஸக்தா து- - if it (the intellect) is not attached to them (the sense objects); அம்ருத-க்ருத்- - (then) it is the cause of liberation; உபருந்தே⁴ - (but) prevents; ப⁴க்தியோக:³-து - the path of devotion, indeed; ஸக்திம் - (whereas) attachment; மஹத்-அனுக³ம-லப்⁴யா ப⁴க்தி:- - devotion which arises from following holy men; ஏவ-அத்ர ஸாத்⁴யா - alone should be sought here; கபில-தனு:-இதி த்வம் - Thou incarnate as Kapil, thus; தே³வஹூத்யை ந்யகா³தீ³: - instructed Devahooti;
Translation
In this world when the intellect gets attached to the sense objects, which are the product of the three Gunas, it becomes the cause of bondage. Otherwise, it leads to liberation. The path of devotion indeed prevents attachment. Devotion which arises from following holy men alone should be sought after. Thou incarnate as Kapila thus instructed Devahooti.

ப்ரக்ருதிமஹத³ஹங்காராஶ்ச மாத்ராஶ்ச பூ⁴தா-

Meaning
ப்ரக்ருதி-மஹத்-அஹங்காரா:-ச - Prakriti, Mahat, Ahankaar and; மாத்ரா:-ச - the five Tanmaatraas; பூ⁴தானி-அபி - and also the five elements; ஹ்ருத்-அபி - and the mind; த³ஶ-ஆக்ஷீ - the ten Indriyaas; பூருஷ: பஞ்சவிம்ஶ - the Purusha as the twenty fifth; இதி விதி³த-விபா⁴க:³ - knowing these divisions; முச்யதே-அஸௌ ப்ரக்ருத்யா - he is released from Prakriti; கபில-தனு:-இதி த்வம் - incarnate as Kapil, Thou; தே³வஹூத்யை ந்யகா³தீ³: - instructed Devahooti;
Translation
Prakriti, (Primordial Nature), Mahat-tatva (the great Spirit),Ahankaara (I sense), the five Tanmaatraas (sound, smell, touch, form, taste), the five Bhootaas (subtle elements- space,air,fire, water, earth), Antahkarana (mind and its various modes), the ten Indriyaas (Organs, five of knowledge-hearing, seeing, touch, taste smell, and five of action-speech,hands,legs,anus,genitals), and Purush (Atman), these are the twentyfive categories. When the Purusha realizes the distinctiveness of these categories, he is liberated from the bondage of Prakriti.Thus Thou incarnate as Kapila, instructed Devahooti.

ப்ரக்ருதிக³தகு³ணௌகை⁴ர்னாஜ்யதே பூருஷோயம்
யதி³ து ஸஜதி தஸ்யாம் தத் கு³ணாஸ்தம் பஜ⁴ேரன் ।
மத³னுபஜ⁴னதத்த்வாலோசனை: ஸாப்யபேயாத்

Meaning
ப்ரக்ருதி-க³த-கு³ண-ஔகை⁴:- - by the many attributes of Prakriti; ந-ஆஜ்யதே பூருஷ:-அயம் - this Purusha is not tainted; யதி³ து ஸஜதி தஸ்யாம் - but if he becomes attached to Prakriti; தத் கு³ணா:-தம் பஜ⁴ேரன் - the attributes of Prakriti attach themselves to him; மத்-அனுபஜ⁴ன- - by constant worship to me; தத்-து-ஆலோசனை: - and by enquiring into My real nature; ஸா-அபி-அபேயாத் - that Prakriti also will leave (her hold); கபிலதனு:-இதி த்வம் - a human descent as Kapil Thou; தே³வஹூத்யை ந்யகா³தீ³: - instructed Devahooti;
Translation
The Purusha, by itself, is free from the attributes of Prakriti, but if he identifies himself with Prakriti, then the attributes of Prakriti attach themselves to him. Prakriti will leave its hold on Purusha if he constantly worships Me and enquires into My real nature. Thou incarnate as Kapila thus instructed Devahooti.

விமலமதிருபாத்தைராஸனாத்³யைர்மத³ங்க³ம்
க³ருட³ஸமதி⁴ரூட⁴ம் தி³வ்யபூ⁴ஷாயுதா⁴ங்கம் ।
ருசிதுலிததமாலம் ஶீலயேதானுவேலம்
கபிலதனுரிதி த்வம் தே³வஹூத்யை ந்யகா³தீ³: ॥4॥
Meaning
விமல-மதி:- - one who has purified his mind; உபாத்தை:-ஆஸன-ஆத்³யை:- - by control of the senses by meditative postures; மத்-அங்க³ம் க³ருட-³ஸமதி⁴ரூட⁴ம் - should, (meditate on) My form mounted on Garuda; தி³வ்ய-பூ⁴ஷா-ஆயுத-⁴அங்கம் - adorned with divine ornaments and divine weapons; ருசி-துலித-தமாலம் - resembling a Tamaala tree in lustre; ஶீலயேத-அனுவேலம் - should meditate on constantly; கபில-தனு: இதி த்வம் - a human descent as Kapila, Thou; தே³வஹூத்யை ந்யகா³தீ³: - instructed Devahooti;
Translation
Having purified the mind by control of the senses and by meditative postures, one should constantly meditate on My form, adorned with divine ornaments and weapons, seated on Garuda and blue and lustrous like the Tamaala tree. Thus ,Thou instructed Devahooti incarnate as Kapila.

மம கு³ணக³ணலீலாகர்ணனை: கீர்தனாத்³யை-
ர்மயி ஸுரஸரிதோ³க⁴ப்ரக்²யசித்தானுவ்ருத்தி: ।
ப⁴வதி பரமப⁴க்தி: ஸா ஹி ம்ருத்யோர்விஜேத்ரீ

Meaning
மம-கு³ண-க³ண-லீலா-ஆகர்ணனை: - by listening to My many excellences and sportive activities; கீர்தன-ஆத்³யை: - (and) by chanting My name etc.; மயி - in Me,; ஸுர-ஸரித்-ஓக-⁴ப்ரக்²ய-சித்த-அனுவ்ருத்தி: - in which the mind flows in a continuous stream like that of Ganga; ப⁴வதி பரம-ப⁴க்தி: - is born that supreme devotion; ஸா ஹி - that (devotion) alone; ம்ருத்யோ:-விஜேத்ரீ - is the conqueror of the cycle of birth and death; கபில-தனு:-இதி த்வம் - a human descent as Kapil Thou; தே³வஹூத்யை ந்யகா³தீ³: - instructed Devahooti;
Translation
By regularly listening to My excellences and My sportive deeds and by chanting My name, the supreme devotion is born. This devotion in which the mind flows in an uninterrupted stream towards Me, like the Ganga flows towards the sea, alone can conquer the cycle of birth and death. Thus, Thou incarnate as Kapil, instructed Devahooti.

அஹஹ ப³ஹுலஹிம்ஸாஸஞ்சிதார்தை²: குடும்ப³ம்
ப்ரதிதி³னமனுபுஷ்ணன் ஸ்த்ரீஜிதோ பா³லலாலீ ।

Meaning
அஹஹ - Alas!; ப³ஹுல-ஹிம்ஸா-ஸஞ்சித-அர்தை²: - with wealth earned by many cruel and unfair means; குடும்ப³ம் - ones family; ப்ரதிதி³னம்-அனுபுஷ்ணன் - everyday feeding; ஸ்த்ரீஜித: - controlled over by wife; பா³லலாலீ - fondly loving the children; விஶதி ஹி - attains indeed; க்³ருஹஸக்த: - intensely attached to his house; யாதனாம் - sufferings (of hell); மயி-அப⁴க்த: - one who is not devoted to Me; கபில்-தனு:-இதி த்வம் - a human descent as Kapil, Thou; தே³வஹூத்யை ந்யகா³தீ³: - instructed Devahooti;
Translation
Alas! Men acquire wealth by unfair and cruel means for the support of their own families and are in subservience to women's charms and love of children. Being devoid of devotion to Me, intensely attached to the worldly possessions, they are led to the sufferings of hell. Thus, Thou instructed Devahooti, as Kapil incarnate.

யுவதிஜட²ரகி²ன்னோ ஜாதபோ³தோ⁴ப்யகாண்டே³
ப்ரஸவக³லிதபோ³த:⁴ பீட³யோல்லங்க்⁴ய பா³ல்யம் ।
புனரபி ப³த முஹ்யத்யேவ தாருண்யகாலே
கபிலதனுரிதி த்வம் தே³வஹூத்யை ந்யகா³தீ³: ॥7॥
Meaning
யுவதி-ஜட²ர-கி²ன்ன: - suffering in the womb of a young woman (mother); ஜாத-போ³த:⁴-அபி-அகாண்டே³ - even though suddenly getting the knowledge of Reality; ப்ரஸவ-க³லித-போ³த:⁴ - losing that knowledge immediately on birth; பீட³யா-உல்லங்க்⁴ய பா³ல்யம் - spending childhood afflicted with ailments; புன:-அபி ப³த முஹ்யதி-ஏவ - again is infatuated alas!; தாருண்ய-காலே - during youth; கபில-தனு:-இதி த்வம் - a human descent as Kapil, Thou; தே³வஹூத்யை ந்யகா³தீ³: - instructed Devahooti;
Translation
Repeatedly entering the womb for rebirth, the Jiva though retains the memory of the Supreme Reality, he loses it during the travails of birth. After going through various sufferings of childhood, he enters the stage of youth, when he once again is overcome by the infatuation of sense life. Thus, Thou incarnate as Kapil, instructed Devahooti.

பித்ருஸுரக³ணயாஜீ தா⁴ர்மிகோ யோ க்³ருஹஸ்த:²
ஸ ச நிபததி காலே த³க்ஷிணாத்⁴வோபகா³மீ ।
மயி நிஹிதமகாமம் கர்ம தூத³க்பதா²ர்த²ம்
கபில்தனுரிதி த்வம் தே³வஹூத்யை ந்யகா³தீ³: ॥8॥
Meaning
பித்ரு-ஸுர-க³ண-யாஜீ - one who performs sacrifices to ancestors and gods; தா⁴ர்மிக: ய: க்³ருஹஸ்த:² - a householder who performs righteous deeds; ஸ ச நிபததி காலே - and he comes back (to this earth) in due course; த³க்ஷிண-அத்⁴வ-உபகா³மீ - going (led by) the Southern path; மயி நிஹிதம்- - dedicated to Me; அகாமம் கர்ம து- - (doing) desireless actions, however; உத³க்-பதா²ர்த²ம் - is led by the Northern path; கபில்-தனு:-இதி த்வம் - a human descent as Kapila, Thou ,thus; தே³வஹூத்யை ந்யகா³தீ³: - instructed Devahooti;
Translation
A virtuous householder who makes sacrificial offerings to forefathers (Pitris) and gods (Devas), goes by the Southern path after death, and is born again when he has enjoyed the fruits of his meritorious deeds.Those who live by performing desireless actions as offerings to Me, go by the Northern path, after death. Thus Thou instructed Devahooti, incarnate as Kapila.

இதி ஸுவிதி³தவேத்³யாம் தே³வ ஹே தே³வஹூதிம்
க்ருதனுதிமனுக்³ருஹ்ய த்வம் க³தோ யோகி³ஸங்கை⁴: ।
விமலமதிரதா²ஸௌ ப⁴க்தியோகே³ன முக்தா
த்வமபி ஜனஹிதார்த²ம் வர்தஸே ப்ராகு³தீ³ச்யாம் ॥9॥
Meaning
இதி ஸுவிதி³த-வேத்³யாம் - thus who had known well what is to be known; தே³வ ஹே - O Lord!; தே³வஹூதிம் க்ருதனுதிம்- - to Devahooti who was praising Thee; அனுக்³ருஹ்ய த்வம் க³த: - having blessed, Thou departed; யோகி³-ஸங்கை⁴: - along with a group of Yogis; விமல-மதி:-அத-²அஸௌ - she (Devahooti) who had become pure in mind; ப⁴க்தி-யோகே³ன முக்தா - was liberated by the path of devotion; த்வம்-அபி ஜன-ஹித-அர்த²ம் - Thou also for the good of the people; வர்தஸே - do stay; ப்ராக்-உதீ³ச்யாம் - in the North East;
Translation
O Lord! Having thus known all that was to be known, Thou blessed Devahooti, who was singing Thy praise. She had attained the purity of mind and was liberated by following the path of devotion. Thou also left with a group of ascetics and Thou do stay even now, in the North East for the good of the people.

பரம கிமு ப³ஹூக்த்யா த்வத்பதா³ம்போ⁴ஜப⁴க்திம்

பரம - O Supreme Lord!; கிமு ப³ஹூக்த்யா - what more to say; த்வத்-பத்³-அம்போ⁴ஜ-ப⁴க்திம் - devotion to Thy lotus feet; ஸகல-ப⁴ய-வினேத்ரீம் - removes all fears; ஸர்வ-காம-உபனேத்ரீம் - and fulfills all desires; வத³ஸி க²லு த்³ருட⁴ம் த்வம் - Thou (Thyself) do firmly declare indeed; தத்-விதூ⁴ய-ஆமயான் மே - therefore eradicating my ailments; கு³ருபவனபுரேஶ - O Lord of Guruvaayur!; த்வயி-உபாத⁴த்ஸ்வ ப⁴க்திம் - endow me with devotion to Thee;
Translation
O Supreme Lord! What more do I say? Thou have firmly declared that devotion to Thy lotus feet removes all fears and fulfills all desires. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Therefore, eradicating all my ailments, endow me with devotion to Thee.
