ஶ்லோக:
முதா³ ஸுரௌகை⁴ஸ்த்வமுதா³ரஸம்மதை³-
ருதீ³ர்ய தா³மோத³ர இத்யபி⁴ஷ்டுத: ।
ம்ருது³த³ர: ஸ்வைரமுலூக²லே லக-³
ந்னதூ³ரதோ த்³வௌ ககுபா⁴வுதை³க்ஷதா²: ॥1॥
Meaning
முதா³ ஸுரௌகை⁴:- - joyfully by the group of gods; த்வம்-உதா³ர-ஸம்மதை³:- - Thou (was called) with great happiness; உதீ³ர்ய தா³மோதர³ - was called Daamodara; இதி-அபி⁴ஷ்டுத: - (and) thus were praised/ glorified; ம்ருது³-உத³ர: - tender bellied; ஸ்வைரம்-உலூக²லே - Thyself at the mortar; லக³ன்-அதூ³ரத: - attached, not far away; த்³வௌ ககுபௌ⁴-உதை³க்ஷதா²: - two Kakubha (Arjuna) tree, saw;
Translation
Thou were joyfully named Daamodara by the group of sages who were watching Thee with great happiness, and they praised and glorified Thee. Thou who with a tender belly were attached to the mortar, saw two Kakubha (Arjuna) trees not far away.
ஶ்லோக:
குபே³ரஸூனுர்னலகூப³ராபி⁴த:⁴
பரோ மணிக்³ரீவ இதி ப்ரதா²ம் க³த: ।
மஹேஶஸேவாதி⁴க³தஶ்ரியோன்மதௌ³
சிரம் கில த்வத்³விமுகா²வகே²லதாம் ॥2॥
Meaning
குபே³ர-ஸூனு:- - Kuber's sons; நலகூப³ர-அபி⁴த:⁴ - named Nalakubara; பர: மணிக்³ரீவ இதி - another one Manigreeva thus; ப்ரதா²ம் க³த: - became well known; மஹேஶ-ஸேவா- - by worshipping Shiva; அதி⁴க³த-ஶ்ரிய- - attained prosperity; உன்மதௌ³ சிரம் கில - (both) became haughty, for long, indeed; த்வத்-விமுகௌ²- - indifferent to Thee; அவகே²லதாம் - (and) became wayward;
Translation
The two sons of Kuber, (the god of wealth) one known as Nalakubara and the other one known as Manigreeva became very well known. By worshipping Shiva they also attained great prosperity and because of the pride of wealth they became very haughty and indifferent to Thee. For a very long time they led a very wayward life.
ஶ்லோக:
ஸுராபகா³யாம் கில தௌ மதோ³த்கடௌ
ஸுராபகா³யத்³ப³ஹுயௌவதாவ்ருதௌ ।
விவாஸஸௌ கேலிபரௌ ஸ நாரதோ³
ப⁴வத்பதை³கப்ரவணோ நிரைக்ஷத ॥3॥
Meaning
ஸுர-ஆபகா³யாம் - in the sacred river of the gods (Ganges); கில தௌ மதோ³த்கடௌ - indeed, the two of them, intoxicated; ஸுரா-ஆப-கா³யத்- - wine having drunk and singing; ப³ஹு-யௌவத-ஆவ்ருதௌ - by many (such drunk) damsels surrounded; விவாஸிஸௌ கேலிபரௌ - without clothes sporting; ஸ நாரத:³ - that (sage) Naarada (who); ப⁴வத்-பத-³ஏக-ப்ரவண: - to Thy feet alone is devoted; நிரைக்ஷத - saw;
Translation
Naarada who is devoted to Thee alone, once saw these two sporting in the Ganges which is the river of the gods. They were in an intoxicated state having drunk wine and were surrounded by young intoxicated damsels, stark naked, singing and sporting in the Ganges waters.
ஶ்லோக:
பி⁴யா ப்ரியாலோகமுபாத்தவாஸஸம்
புரோ நிரீக்ஷ்யாபி மதா³ந்த⁴சேதஸௌ ।
இமௌ ப⁴வத்³ப⁴க்த்யுபஶாந்திஸித்³த⁴யே
முனிர்ஜகௌ³ ஶாந்திம்ருதே குத: ஸுக²ம் ॥4॥
Meaning
பி⁴யா ப்ரியா-லோகம்- - in fear, the dear women; உபாத்த-வாஸஸம் - put on the clothes; புர: நிரீக்ஷ்ய-அபி - in front seeing, even then; மத-³அந்த-⁴சேதஸௌ - by intoxication blind minded; இமௌ - (to) these two; ப⁴வத்-ப⁴க்தி- - devotion to Thee; உபஶாந்தி-ஸித்³த⁴யே - and mental peace, to achieve; முனி:-ஜகௌ³ - the Muni said; ஶாந்திம்-ருதே - without calmness of mind; குத: ஸுக²ம் - where is happiness;
Translation
At the sight of sage Naarada, the dear women hastily put on their clothes. Even then, with the mind blinded by intoxication, these two, continued to sport in nakedness. The Muni then pronounced thus (in the next shloka) in order for them to achieve devotion to Thee and mental peace. For without calmness of mind where is happiness?
ஶ்லோக:
யுவாமவாப்தௌ ககுபா⁴த்மதாம் சிரம்
ஹரிம் நிரீக்ஷ்யாத² பத³ம் ஸ்வமாப்னுதம் ।
இதீரேதௌ தௌ ப⁴வதீ³க்ஷணஸ்ப்ருஹாம்
க³தௌ வ்ரஜாந்தே ககுபௌ⁴ ப³பூ⁴வது: ॥5॥
Meaning
யுவாம்-அவாப்தௌ - you two getting; ககுப-⁴ஆத்மதாம் சிரம் - the personification of Kakubh trees for long; ஹரிம் நிரீக்ஷ்ய-அத² - Hari seeing then; பத³ம் ஸ்வம்-ஆப்னுதம் - to your own state you two will get; இதி-ஈரிதௌ தௌ - thus being told the two of them; ப⁴வத்-ஈக்ஷண-ஸ்ப்ருஹாம் - the vision of Thee desiring; க³தௌ வ்ரஜ-அந்தே - going to the outskirts of Gokul; ககுபௌ⁴ ப³பூ⁴வது: - became Kakubha (Arjuna) trees;
Translation
You two will become Kakubha trees for long. Then when you see Hari, you two will get to your own state.' Being thus told by the sage, desiring to get Thy vision, they went to the outskirts of Vraja and became Kakubha trees.
ஶ்லோக:
அதந்த்³ரமிந்த்³ரத்³ருயுக³ம் ததா²வித⁴ம்
ஸமேயுஷா மந்த²ரகா³மினா த்வயா ।
திராயிதோலூக²லரோத⁴னிர்து⁴தௌ
சிராய ஜீர்ணௌ பரிபாதிதௌ தரூ ॥6॥
Meaning
அதந்த்³ரம்- - without pausing (Thee); இந்த்³ர-த்³ரு-யுக³ம் - the two Arjuna trees; ததா²-வித⁴ம் - which were such; ஸமேயுஷா - were approached (by Thee); மந்த²ர-கா³மினா த்வயா - moving in slow pace by Thee; திராயுத-உலூக²ல- - the crosswise mortar; ரோத-⁴னிர்து⁴தௌ - obstructed and so uprooted; சிராய ஜீர்ணௌ - for long decayed; பரிபாதிதௌ தரூ - and felled the trees;
Translation
Those two such Arjuna trees Thou approached in a slow pace without a pause, as Thou pulled along the crosswise mortar, which obstructed the aged and long decayed trees and felled them.
ஶ்லோக:
அபா⁴ஜி ஶாகி²த்³விதயம் யதா³ த்வயா
ததை³வ தத்³க³ர்ப⁴தலான்னிரேயுஷா ।
மஹாத்விஷா யக்ஷயுகே³ன தத்க்ஷணா-
த³பா⁴ஜி கோ³விந்த³ ப⁴வானபி ஸ்தவை: ॥7॥
Meaning
அபா⁴ஜி ஶாகி²த்³விதயம் - felled the two trees; யதா³ த்வயா ததா³-ஏவ - when by Thee, just then; தத்-க³ர்ப-⁴தலாத்-னிரேயுஷா - from their core emerged; மஹாத்விஷா - the radiant; யக்ஷயுகே³ன - pair of Yakshas(sons of Kuber) by whom; தத்-க்ஷணாத்-அபா⁴ஜி - immediately were worshipped; கோ³விந்த³ - O Govind!; ப⁴வான்-அபி ஸ்தவை: - Thou also with hymns;
Translation
When the two trees were felled by Thee, just then from their root cores emerged a pair of radiant Yakshas. O Govinda! They immediately worshipped Thee with hymns.
ஶ்லோக:
இஹான்யப⁴க்தோபி ஸமேஷ்யதி க்ரமாத்
ப⁴வந்தமேதௌ க²லு ருத்³ரஸேவகௌ ।
முனிப்ரஸாதா³த்³ப⁴வ்த³ங்க்⁴ரிமாக³தௌ
க³தௌ வ்ருணானௌ க²லு ப⁴க்திமுத்தமாம் ॥8॥
Meaning
இஹ-அன்ய-ப⁴க்த:-அபி - here (in this world), devotees of other gods also; ஸமேஷ்யதி - will certainly come; க்ரமாத் ப⁴வந்தம்- - in due course to Thee; ஏதௌ க²லு ருத்³ர-ஸேவகௌ - these two, indeed, devotees of Rudra; முனி-ப்ரஸாதா³த்- - by Muni Naarada's grace; ப⁴வத்-அங்க்⁴ரிம்- - Thy feet; ஆக³தௌ க³தௌ - reached, and went away; வ்ருணானௌ க²லு - praying for, indeed; ப⁴க்திம்-உத்தமாம் - the highest devotion (to Thee);
Translation
Here in this world, in due course, the devotees of other gods also certainly come to Thee only. These two devotees of Rudra, by the grace of Naarada, reached Thy feet. They prayed to Thee and beseeched for the highest devotion and went away.
ஶ்லோக:
ததஸ்தரூத்³தா³ரணதா³ருணாரவ-
ப்ரகம்பிஸம்பாதினி கோ³பமண்ட³லே ।
விலஜ்ஜிதத்வஜ்ஜனநீமுகே²க்ஷிணா
வ்யமோக்ஷி நந்தே³ன ப⁴வான் விமோக்ஷத:³ ॥9॥
Meaning
தத:-தரூ-த்³தா³ரண- - then by the falling of the trees; தா³ருண-ஆரவ- - the frightening sound (hearing); ப்ரகம்பி-ஸம்பாதினி - trembling and rushing; கோ³ப-மண்ட³லே - the group of Gopas; விலஜ்ஜித-த்வத்-ஜனநீ- - ashamed Thy mother; முக-²இக்ஷிணா - her face being glanced at; வ்யமோக்ஷி நந்தே³ன - releasing Thee (glanced) by Nanda (meaningfully); ப⁴வான் விமோக்ஷத:³ - Thee, who releases all;
Translation
Then by the falling of the trees, which caused the frightening sound, the group of Gopas were frightened and rushed to the spot trembling. As Nanda glanced at Thy mother meaningfully, she felt very ashamed. He then released Thee from the mortar, who releases everyone from the bonds of Samsaara (the cycle of repeated life and death and the illusion of Maayaa).
ஶ்லோக:
மஹீருஹோர்மத்⁴யக³தோ ப³தார்ப⁴கோ
ஹரே: ப்ரபா⁴வாத³பரிக்ஷதோது⁴னா ।
இதி ப்³ருவாணைர்க³மிதோ க்³ருஹம் ப⁴வான்
மருத்புராதீ⁴ஶ்வர பாஹி மாம் க³தா³த் ॥1௦॥
Meaning
மஹீருஹோ:-மத்⁴ய-க³த: - of the two trees, having entered their interspace (middle); ப³த-அர்ப⁴க: - O what a wonder the child; ஹரே: ப்ரபா⁴வாத்- - by God's grace; அபரிக்ஷத:-அது⁴னா - is safe (unhurt), today; இதி ப்³ருவாணை:- - thus by them who were saying; க³மித: க்³ருஹம் - (Thou) were taken to the house; ப⁴வான் மருத்புராதீ⁴ஶ்வர - Thou O Lord of Guruvaayur!; பாஹி மாம் க³தா³த் - save me from ailments;
Translation
Having entered the interspace of the two trees and the trees having fallen, it is only God's grace that the child is safe and unhurt today.' As they said so they carried Thee to the house. O Thou Lord of Guruvaayur! Save me from my ailments.
