ශ්ලෝකඃ
තදනු නංදමමංදශුභාස්පදං නෘපපුරීං කරදානකෘතේ ගතම්।
සමවලෝක්ය ජගාද භවත්පිතා විදිතකංසසහායජනෝද්යමඃ ॥1॥
Meaning
තදනු නංදම්- - after that to Nanda; අමංද-ශුභ-ආස්පදම් - (who is) of non dimmed virtues the abode; නෘප-පුරීම් - to the king's city; කර-දාන-කෘතේ ගතම් - to pay his tributes (taxes), who had gone; සමවලෝක්ය - seeing (meeting); ජගාද භවත්-පිතා - said (to Nanda), Thy father (Vasudeva); විදිත-කංස- - who knew of Kansa's; සහායජන-උද්යමඃ - and Kansa's supporters' activities;
Translation
Thereafter, Nanda (who is the abode of undiminished virtues), went to the king's city to pay his tributes (taxes). On meeting him, Thy father Vasudeva who knew of the activities of Kansa and his supporters, told him that.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
අයි සඛේ තව බාලකජන්ම මාං සුඛයතේऽද්ය නිජාත්මජජන්මවත් ।
ඉති භවත්පිතෘතාං ව්රජනායකේ සමධිරෝප්ය ශශංස තමාදරාත් ॥2॥
Meaning
අයි සඛේ - O friend!; තව බාලක ජන්ම - to you a son's birth; මාං-සුඛයතේ-අද්ය - gives me pleasure now; නිජ-ආත්මජ-ජන්මවත් - my own son's birth like; ඉති භවත්-පිතෘතාං - thus Thy fatherhood; ව්රජනායකේ සමධිරෝප්ය - to the cowherd chief, (he cleverly) attributed; ශශංස තම්-ආදරාත් - and praised him with affection;
Translation
"O Friend! The birth of a son to you gives me pleasure as if a son were born to myself." Thus he cleverly attributed Thy fatherhood on Nanda, and praised him with affection.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
ඉහ ච සංත්යනිමිත්තශතානි තේ කටකසීම්නි තතෝ ලඝු ගම්යතාම් ।
ඉති ච තද්වචසා ව්රජනායකෝ භවදපායභියා ද්රුතමායයෞ ॥3॥
Meaning
ඉහ ච සංති- - and here there are; අනිමිත්ත-ශතානි - bad omens in hundreds; තේ කටක-සීම්නි - at your residence; තතඃ ලඝු ගම්යතාම් - therefore soon (you) should go; ඉති ච තත්-වචසා - and thus, by his (Vaudeva's) words; ව්රජනායකඃ - the cowherd chieftain (Nandagopa); භවත්-අපාය-භියා - to Thee danger apprehending; ද්රුතම්-ආයයෞ - quickly returned;
Translation
"Here there are bad omens in hundreds and soon at your residence also it will not be safe, so you should return soon". Thus by Vasudeva's words, apprehending danger to Thee, Nanda quickly returned.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
අවසරේ ඛලු තත්ර ච කාචන ව්රජපදේ මධුරාකෘතිරංගනා ।
තරලෂට්පදලාලිතකුංතලා කපටපෝතක තේ නිකටං ගතා ॥4॥
Meaning
අවසරේ ඛලු තත්ර ච - at that time, indeed, and there; කාචන ව්රජපදේ - some (female) in Gokula; මධුර-ආකෘතිඃ-අංගනා - beautiful looking woman; තරල-ෂට්පද- - (with) hovering bees; ලාලිත-කුංතලා - around (her) locks of hair (due to the sweet smell); කපට-පෝතක - (O Thou) in the guise of a child!; තේ නිකටං ගතා - went near Thee;
Translation
Just then there in Gokula, some beautiful looking woman with honey bees hovering around the sweet smelling flowers in her hair locks, entered. O Thou! In the guise of a child, she approached Thee.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
සපදි සා හෘතබාලකචේතනා නිශිචරාන්වයජා කිල පූතනා ।
ව්රජවධූෂ්විහ කේයමිති ක්ෂණං විමෘශතීෂු භවංතමුපාදදේ ॥5॥
Meaning
සපදි සා - quickly she; හෘත-බාලක-චේතනා - who had taken the children' lives; නිශිචර-අන්වය-ජා - of demon clan born; කිල පූතනා - indeed Pootanaa; ව්රජ-වධූෂු-ඉහ - among the Vraja women here; කා-ඉයම්-ඉති - who is this, thus; ක්ෂණං විමෘශතීෂු - for a moment wondering; භවංතම්-උපාදදේ - Thee lifted up (in her arms);
Translation
Quickly she, Pootanaa, born in the clan of demons, who had taken the lives of many children, lifted Thee up, even as the Vraja women were for a second wondering as to who she was.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
ලලිතභාවවිලාසහෘතාත්මභිර්යුවතිභිඃ ප්රතිරෝද්ධුමපාරිතා ।
ස්තනමසෞ භවනාංතනිෂේදුෂී ප්රදදුෂී භවතේ කපටාත්මනේ ॥5॥
Meaning
ලලිත-භාව-විලාස- - by her charming appearance and graceful movements; හෘත-ආත්මභිඃ-යුවතිභිඃ - with captivated minds, the young women; ප්රතිරෝද්ධුම්-අපාරිතා - to deter (stop) not being able; ස්තනම්-අසෞ - her breasts this (Pootanaa); භවන-අංත-නිෂේදුෂී - inside the house sitting; ප්රදදුෂී භවතේ - gave (her breasts) to Thee; කපට-ආත්මනේ - the illusive child;
Translation
Her charming appearance and graceful movements captivated the minds of the Gopis who were unable to stop her from making advances. So this Pootanaa took her seat inside the house as she applied Thee, the illusive child, to her breasts.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
සමධිරුහ්ය තදංකමශංකිතස්ත්වමථ බාලකලෝපනරෝෂිතඃ ।
මහදිවාම්රඵලං කුචමංඩලං ප්රතිචුචූෂිථ දුර්විෂදූෂිතම් ॥7॥
Meaning
සමධිරුහ්ය තත්-අංකම්- - climbing in her lap; අශංකිතඃ-ත්වම්-අථ - unhesitatingly Thou then; බාලක-ලෝපන-රෝෂිතඃ - by the children' killing angered; මහත්-ඉව-ආම්ර-ඵලම් - huge, as if it were a mango fruit; කුච-මංඩලං ප්රති-චුචූෂිථ - the breast, sucked well; දුර්විෂ-දූෂිතම් - with strong poison smeared;
Translation
Thou who were angered by her killing of the children, unhesitatingly climbed in her lap and sucked well her poison smeared breasts as if it were a huge mango fruit.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
අසුභිරේව සමං ධයති ත්වයි ස්තනමසෞ ස්තනිතෝපමනිස්වනා ।
නිරපතද්භයදායි නිජං වපුඃ ප්රතිගතා ප්රවිසාර්ය භුජාවුභෞ ॥8॥
Meaning
අසුභිඃ-ඒව සමම් - her life breath along with; ධයති ත්වයි ස්තනම්- - sucking (when) Thou were the breast; අසෞ ස්තනිත-උපම-නිස්වනා - this Pootanaa, with thunder like noise; නිරපතත්- - fell down; භයදායි නිජං වපුඃ - ferocious her own body; ප්රතිගතා - reverting to; ප්රවිසාර්ය භුජෞ-උභෞ - out stretching both the hands;
Translation
Thou sucked the breast along with her life force. This Pootanaa fell down with a thunder like noise reverting to her natural ferocious body with both hands stretching out.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
භයදඝෝෂණභීෂණවිග්රහශ්රවණදර්ශනමෝහිතවල්ලවේ ।
ව්රජපදේ තදුරඃස්ථලඛේලනං නනු භවංතමගෘහ්ණත ගෝපිකාඃ ॥9॥
Meaning
භයද-ඝෝෂණ- - the terrifying sound; භීෂණ-විග්රහ- - and the frightful form; ශ්රවණ-දර්ශන- - hearing and seeing; මෝහිත-වල්ලවේ - (which) stunned the gopas; ව්රජපදේ - and (the whole of) Gokul; තත්-උදරඃ-ස්ථල- - on her chest; ඛේලනං නනු - playing indeed; භවංතම්-අගෘහ්ණත - Thee picked up; ගෝපිකාඃ - the Gopis;
Translation
The whole of Gokul stood stunned hearing the terrifying sound and seeing the frightful form. The Gopis picked Thee up even as Thou were playing on the chest of the dead demoness.
ශ්ලෝකඃ
භුවනමංගලනාමභිරේව තේ යුවතිභිර්බහුධා කෘතරක්ෂණඃ ।
ත්වමයි වාතනිකේතනනාථ මාමගදයන් කුරු තාවකසේවකම් ॥10॥
Meaning
භුවන-මංගල- - O Thou who confers auspiciousness on the world!; නාමභිඃ-ඒව තේ - by Thy name alone; යුවතිභිඃ-බහුධා - by the young women, in various ways; කෘතරක්ෂණඃ ත්වම්-අයි - Thou were protected, O Thou!; වාතනිකේතනනාථ - Lord of Guruvaayur!; මාම්-අගදයන් - making me devoid of ailments; කුරු තාවක-සේවකම් - make me Thy devotee;

O Thou! Who confers auspiciousness on to the world, the young women protected Thee in various ways with chanting Thy names alone. O Lord of Guruvaayur! Making me devoid of my ailments, make me Thy devotee.
